The 4th International Agriculture Innovation Conference (IAIC 2019) took place in Oulu, Finland, from August 7th to 9th, 2019, with a post-tour on August 10th. IAIC 2019 was organized by the International Association for Agricultural Sustainability (IAAS), in collaboration with the University of Oulu and the Asia Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI).
The conference commenced with an Industrial Meeting held at the University of Oulu Botanical Gardens, where business owners and experts from Asia and the Arctic shared their insights and experiences in operating businesses in domestic markets.
During the event, we had the privilege of listening to special speeches by three distinguished guests: Ms. Siriporn Boonchoo, the Director General of the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand; Dr. Vincent Chang, the Vice Chancellor and President of Brac University in Bengal; and Ms. Martina Spisiakova, the Knowledge Management Coordinator at APAARI. They shared valuable strategies for agricultural sustainability and the pivotal role of bridging agricultural innovation systems.
Industry experts from the United States, Norway, Poland, New Zealand, and China also provided insightful perspectives on topics such as rural revitalization, sustainable food production, human health, and environmental sustainability.
The use of data and information is becoming increasingly crucial for improving productivity and sustainability in the agriculture sector. On the final day of the IAIC conference, participants and students from around the world presented their research papers on Agriculture Technology, Innovation, and Blockchain. The utilization of blockchain technology enables agricultural practitioners and farming communities to access up-to-date information, empowering them to make informed decisions in their daily farming practices.
As part of the event, guests and participants were invited to the Edible-insects Showroom, where they had the opportunity to explore new technologies and resources. Furthermore, they planted the IAIC tree at Pyhäjärvi and visited a local berry farm to enjoy fresh berries and local food products in Oulu, Finland.
